Oh, hey, there! I’m Anika Walkes.

In short, I can be summed up in 3 sentences (with paragraphs to explain them thoroughly, of course):

1 . Christ is my life.

light shine bright

I grew up in a Christian home, but was saved by grace through faith at age 9, and then was saved again (yes, twice!) at age 12. I’m currently a 13-year-old living out her faith and sharing the Lord’s light everywhere she can – in my writing, my blog, and my life!

Jesus is Who I live for every day, and Who I hope to serve in all I do.

2 . Books are my adventures.

a thousand lives

I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember – and reading was what jump-started my dream for writing! I taught myself to read at age 4, and by age 9 had devoured many classics including C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women, and L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Greene Gables –  and each of those books still holds a special spot on my bookshelf.

The wonders of literature take me on countless adventures all over the world every day and I still manage to get home in time for dinner. Who could ask for more than that?

3 . Writing is my dream.

Writing, for me, started when I was young. I was 6 or 7, maybe, and with the help of a kind friend, would color stories on pieces of paper and staple them together to be my own little books. When I was 8, I wrote a short story all by myself – I was so proud. And I found writing to be a fun way to pass time, so I continued writing short stories.

When I was 11, I started my first blog. Through my blog I shared stories that I wrote. Shortly after I began my first blog, I discovered a kids writing magazine and submitted one of my stories to it. I was accepted and published in Stone Soup Magazine‘s November/December 2016 issue.

After that, my passion for writing grew and grew, and is still growing every day. I am working seriously on two novels and am pursuing publishing with the help of many mentors and friends on the same path as me.

Writing is how I speak in this world.
